The Eagle NYC bar held its gala Halloween costume party on October 31 and a highlight was a contest, featuring some extremely elaborate costuming and hosted by Witti Repartee and Mr. Eagle NYC 2015 boy laney Ballard.
To begin the contest, “Mama Zombie” Witti sang “Now you’re a zombie” to boy laney and, later, “The Monster Mash,” to which boy laney and contest winners Day of the Dead, the Porcupines, and the Eagle and semi-finalists Kermit the Cub and a female Peter Pan, tall male Tinkerbell and hairy-chested Captain Hook-er danced.
The costume contest winners’ cash prizes, awarded by Eagle co-owner Derek Danton, were $1,000 for Day of the Dead, in dress and big picture hat with lights; $350 for the runners-up the furry, prickly Porcupines; and $150 for second runner-up the Eagle, Mr. Fire Island Leather 2007 Diego Vargas in an over-the-top feathery creation. Judges of the contest were Witti and boy laney, with input from Empress Pepperica Swirl and this writer.
Other contestants included Naked Chefs; handsome Anubis the jackal-faced god; Cupid in gold, Cat-in-the-Hat cronies Thing One and Thing Two, blue-haired and fuzzy; a baby, complete with diaper; and aliens. Also seen were leprechauns, photographers Mike Prestia and Gustavo Monroy, and Cherry Grove’s Steven Sebor and Edd Clark.
