On June 16, at Cooper Union, New York City Council Speaker and potential mayoral candidate Christine Quinn hosted the Council’s GLBT Pride Event for 2011.
Speakers included, but were not limited to, Council Members Rosie Mendez and Daniel Dromm.
Honorees included Daniel Hernandez, Jr. the Congressional Intern who held Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ head in his arms, after she was shot, and helped control the bleeding until the ambulances arrived; the office staff of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords; Congressman Jerrold (“Jerry”) Nadler from Manhattan; and Edie Windsor, the plaintiff in the Windsor v. United States lawsuit, challenging the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
There were performances by Rory O'Malley, from the cast of “The Book of Mormon,” and by the Gals from “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.”
Even actor Wilson Cruz was in attendance.
