Ninth Avenue Saloon bartender, leatherman John Roth, formerly of the Lure, New York’s erstwhile leather bar, suffered a major stroke recently, reported Gabriel Rivas, Vice-President of Excelsior Motorcycle Club, and Gary Reynolds and the staff of the Saloon are holding a benefit for John on April 23 from 4 to 11 p.m. The Ninth Avenue Saloon is located at 656 Ninth Avenue, between 45th and 46th Street, in Hell’s Kitchen/the Theater District.
According to an email from Gabriel, John “was found unconscious at home by his mother and rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital … He has since regained consciousness and has begun eating, but he cannot speak. According to John’s family, he is not able to receive visitors at this time.”
“All proceeds” from the bar night on April 23 will “benefit John,” Gabriel’s message continues. “Please help spread the word in the leather community; let’s try and get as many of John’s friends” as possible “to attend this benefit event … Any donations can be sent to: Gary Reynolds, 9th Avenue Saloon, 656 9th Avenue, New York, NY 10036-3633, re: John Roth.”
