Prominent fashion designer Charles Nolan, of the Upper West Side of Manhattan and Fire Island Pines, passed away on January 30 at the age of 53. His life partner, of the past 16 years, was Andrew Tobias, financial writer, author, under the pen name John Reid, of the 1973 memoir “The Best Little Boy in the World,” and treasurer of the Democratic National Committee.
Nolan’s wake was held at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, Madison Avenue and 81st Street, on the evening of February 1, with his funeral following the next morning, February 2, at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, West 71st Street, between Columbus Avenue and Broadway.
A dedicated Democrat himself, Nolan volunteered in Howard Dean’s Presidential campaign, dressed prominent Democratic women, including Tipper Gore, and convinced several others to model his fashions. Our condolences go to Andrew Tobias and to Charles Nolan’s father, siblings, and other survivors.
