On October 3, the Bunk House, Eileen Shapiro and Colin Hogan's bar in Sayville, held its first annual Mr. Long Island Pageant and young Quinn Matthews, who holds a national bear title, impressed a panel of seven judges with his poise and singing of "This Is the Moment" and emerged with the Mr. Long Island 2010 title. Quinn was also runner-up in the Mr. Leather competition there. Ian Crawford, who sang "Proud Mary" and doused himself with beer, was the runner-up in the Mr. LI contest. Handsome John O'Neill won both the Mr. Bunk House and Mr. Leather titles, with well-built leatherman and freelance writer Jed Ryan as the runner-up in the former category, and sexy dancer Jay Lambert took the Mr. Hot Body title, with Seneca Derek Levi as runner-up.
With some participants vying for more than one title, the six contenders for Mr. LI were judged on performance, poise, originality and costume; the five for Mr. Bunk House, on costume, originality, q & a, poise, and sex appeal; the four for Mr. Leather, on sex appeal, butchness, costume, and walk; and the five for Mr. Hot Body, on body, costume or lack of it, sex appeal, and walk.
Reigning Miss Long Island Madison Mansfield, Miss LI 1999 and 2008 Josie, Ice Palace Manager Johnny Doyle, WLIB radio's Chloe, John Sears, Mike Perez, and this writer, Mr. Fire Island Leather 2001, the first-ever, were the judges.
