New York City-With the Empire State Building twinkling overhead, the GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Manhattan event, on August 3, made for a truly enchanting, summer evening. 230 Fifth hosted the annual early-August rooftop garden bash, which boasted enough megawatt star power to burn the entire city.
Star of Bravo's "Bethenny Getting Married?," creator of the Skinnygirl Margarita, and author of New York Time's Best Seller "The Skinnygirl Dish" Bethenny Frankel played host-supreme for the night's silent auction, benefiting GLAAD and supporting its outstanding work in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
We mingled with the current Miss New York, the lovely Claire Buffie, one of GLAAD's honorary host committee members and, competing for the crown and the title of Miss America 2011, the very first contestant in the pageant's history with gay rights as a plank in her platform.
We canoodled, over cocktails, over to LOGO's queen starlets of hit show "RuPaul's Drag Race" JuJuBee and Sahara Davenport, both, glammed and glittery, and among the evening's honorary host committee members.
Johny Weir, the three-time U.S. National Champion ice-skater, sent fans flocking to the press line to catch a gracious Weir, posing for pictures, smiling that infectious smile.
Glamour, glitter and famous faces aside, GLAAD's mission is to amplify the voice of the LGBT community, ensuring that our stories are heard in the media, and promoting understanding and acceptance. Visit http://www.glaad.org for more information on the organization's work.
