GLSEN (the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network), the leading national education organization, focused on ensuring safe schools for all students, and headed by Executive Director Dr. Eliza Byard, held its sold out annual Respect Awards ceremony, at Gotham Hall, on Broadway at 36th Street, on May 24.
Honorees included Pop Music star Cyndi Lauper; Chely Wright, the Country Music star, who recently came out publicly; Constance McMillen, the Mississippi LGBT Activist denied the right to bring her girlfriend to the high school prom; "The Amazing Race" reality television show's Reichen Lehmkuhl; and, as Student Advocate of the Year, Danielle Thompson, Mt. Ararat High School student from Topsham, Maine.
