On March 19, on Fulton Street in downtown Manhattan, Baña Pool Party hosts Dave Hickey and P.J. took us "Cruising the Black Sea," for five hours late at night/early in the morning, at Wall Street Bath & Spa 88, "Russian & Turkish Baths since 1892," for a rather different evening than some of our ancestors, out for a night at the "schwitz," might have enjoyed there.
Some 200 men, many raring to go for the Black Party the next night, took advantage of the steam room, sauna, hot tubs, Olympic-size swimming pool, and wet bars there. At 2 a.m., assisted by DJ JoJo Americo, deputizing for DJ Billy Beyond, Dan Paul performed. He entered, swathed in long black robes, sporting long black horns and black leather and studded accoutrements, and, at one point during his first song, appeared to grow to a height of 10 feet before our eyes. For his second number, "Fade Away," Paul donned black-winged headgear and a dancer writhed at his feet-and sometimes, at ours. "Perspective," the third song, brought Paul ever "so close to an angel."
