Josie crowns Epiphany
In the 29th annual Miss Long Island contest, hosted by Ariel Sinclair on September 6, at the Bunkhouse in Sayville, courtesy of Eileen Shapiro and Colin Chisholm, Epiphany was crowned Miss Long Island 2009, by her predecessor Josie (breathtaking in a gown she had made), and Shannon Diamond was the runner-up, named Miss Bunkhouse and crowned by predecessor Gina Marie Versace. A panel of five judges, China, Tom (formerly Hroncich) and John Malanga, Lisa Bacall and this writer, also deemed Daysha Richards the Entertainer of the Year, with Logan Hardcore as runner-up, while Anita Douche and Edwina Scudewich tied for most campy. Porsche was a guest performer, WBLI radio's Randy Spears introduced the judges, and Jimi Lalumia served as DJ.
Giving us a Marilyn Monroe look, Epiphany won $1,000 and a crown. Shannon Diamond's prizes were $500 and a crown. Daysha Richards' prizes, for her number "He Lives in You," were $750 and a crown and Logan Hardcore won $200 and a crown, hanging from the rafters and doing splits in "All the Single Ladies." Anita Douche and Edwina Scudewich each took a $100 prize and a crown.
Daisy and Gigi were the other candidates for Miss Long Island. Others vying for the entertainer prize were Edwina, as Paula Deen as "Sweeney Todd's" Mrs. Lovett, making "The Worst Pies in London" out of body parts from a mortuary; Madison Mansfield doing Lady GAGA doing "Poker Face;" and Savannah Diamond, vamping her way through "Diamonds Are Forever." Erica, Eileen's daughter served as contestant coordinator.
Ariel's tasteful numbers were "My vagina is eight miles wide" and Wendy Ho's "Fuck Me." Porsche took us back to our youth-some of us anyway-singing "Somebody to Love" and, as Janis Joplin, "Piece of My Heart."
