On January 21, I received word from my friend and veteran gay activist Naphtali Offen that our friend Arnie Kantrowitz had passed away. He was 81 years old and lived in Chelsea.
Arnie had been Vice-President of Gay Activist Alliance in the early 1970s. His life-partner was Larry Mass, who had been a founder of Gay Men’s Health Crisis.
Arnie taught college on Staten Island and Naphtali and I had once gone to the school to see him play the part of Creon in Jean Anouilh’s “Antigone.”
Arnie will be well remembered for his commitment to Gay Liberation and his dry wit and he will be sorely missed. Condolences go to Larry on Arnie’s loss.
