On June 15, in time for LGBTQ Pride Month, the Supreme Court added sexual orientation and transgender status to the employment protections guaranteed under Title VII of the 1964 Federal Civil Rights Act, by a vote of six to three. Voting in favor were Chief Justice John G. Roberts and Justices Neil M. Gorsuch—writing the majority opinion in Bostock v. Clayton County, Ga., No. 17-1618, and Altitude Express Inc. v. Zarda, No. 17-1623—and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.
