- - - Derek and Robert’s Eagle NYC bar’s gala Halloween Party took place on October 31. Oscar was the DJ. Revelers came as angels, devils, nuns, exotic animals and birds, beauty queens, leathermen, superheroes, figures out of antiquity, and the like.
The centerpiece of the evening was the costume contest, hosted by Witti Repartée, with the assistance of Mr. Eagle NYC 2020 Mike Jeavon. To introduce the contest, Witti sang “I Put a Spell on You.” Then, 22 individual contestants or groups were reduced to 11, by audience acclaim, and these were reduced to five semi-finalists, by Witti, Mike, and this writer. Before the audience proclaimed a winner, Witti sang and the semi-finalists danced “The Time Warp,” from “The Rocky Horror Show.”
Winning fifth and fourth places were Moulin Rouge-and-Norma Desmond, a trio, and elegant Vida Boheme. Placing third, and taking a $150 prize, was second floor urinal, and second, winning $350, was the Lion King, in a very elaborate costume. For the winner of the top prize of $1,000, the audience chose the gruesome Surgery, a bloody operation-in-progress, performed by Dr. Butcher.
