LGBT organizations and individual community members, chanting “We are Orlando,” held vigil in front of the Stonewall Inn, on June 13, remembering the previous day’s massacre, by late assassin and terrorist Omar Mateen, at the Pulse bar, in Orlando, Florida, that left 49 dead and 53 injured, many of them critically. Speakers included New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, who talked about the state having been at the forefront in marriage equality, and other states having followed, and his hope that they would also follow New York’s lead in passing strong gun control laws; New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio; and Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. Tituss Burgess sang “Somewhere,” from “West Side Story,” a cappella.
