On June 8th, the New York City Council hosted its Celebration of LGBT Pride in Council Chambers at City Hall.
At a ceremony Emceed by Celebrity Host Ron B., Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, and Councilmembers Daniel Dromm, Carlos Menchaca, and Jimmy Van Bramer honored Melissa Sklarz, Krystal Portalatin, Jennifer Flynn, The Earth School, and others. There were song, prayer, and a great video made by the children of The Earth School about how Brainpop, an educational service that many schools and teachers use had refused to include lessons about LGBT rights. I’m sending a letter to protest that omission right now!
